Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Airports denied reports of the closure of the airport in Ferghana due to repair works.

The company noted that work is currently underway at Ferghana International Airport to install modern equipment, including the DME/NL2700 long-range radio beacon and SP-200 radio navigation equipment. These measures are aimed at improving the functionality of the airport’s air navigation systems.

“It is important to note that these works do not provide grounds for suspending operations and closing the airport. Ferghana International Airport continues to operate as normal,” notes Uzbekistan Airways.

In addition, along with the national carrier, such airlines as Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot, Azimut, Qanot Sharq, Centrum Air, Utair, Ural Airlines, S7, Silk Avia also operate flights to Ferghana.

“At the time of the statement, these airlines did not provide information about the movement of their flights,” Uzbekistan Airports emphasizes.

Earlier, Uzbekistan Airways announced that it was canceling all flights to/from the city of Ferghana from 7 December to 31 January due to reconstruction work at the Ferghana International Airport.

Some flights will be transferred along the following routes: Ferghana – Jeddah – Ferghana – to Namangan International Airport; all flights to destinations in the Russian Federation – to Tashkent International Airport.
