Uzbekistan is planning to decrease transit of freights through Tajikistan via transporting goods through Kamchik pass. In September 2000, Uzbekistan completed construction of tunnels from Kamchik and Rezak passes. At construction of 11-km tunnel through Kamchik pass, over 3 million cubic meters of land works were executed and some 39,000 tonnes of asphalt concrete were laid. At the construction of tunnel, over 196,000 cubic meters of sand, 212,000 cubic meters of gravel and 4,500 cubic meters of reinforced concrete, as well as 32,600 tonnes of asphalt.
Tunnels are under electronic observation. Some 69-km cable were laid and modern radio and telephone communication, lightening and fire fighting systems were set. Over 17,000 cars and about 150,000 passengers can pass through tunnel a day.
