Perspectives of renewable energy development discussed in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Share of renewable energy in structure of preliminary fuel-energy resources of Uzbekistan does not reach even 1%. This was announced at joint session of Uzbekistan Ecologic Movement and Adolat Social Democratic Party titled “Use of renewable energy: international experience and advance practice”.

MPs and employees of Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majis, members of Ecologic Movement of Uzbekistan and Adolat Social Democratic Party, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan, Uzbekenergo, Uzeltekhsanoat, and others participated at the event.

It was said that the consumption of energy increased by the beginning of the 21st century, especially those produced at thermal power stations, thermal power centers, etc.

Scientists underlined that large volume of burning at thermal power stations and large number of vehicles, working on organic fuel, is main reason for growth of temperature in the Earth. Currently, the volume of burn organic fuel in the world is equal to 12 billion tonnes of oil or 2 tonnes of oil equivalent per person.

In last 40 years, the production of organic fuel in the world exceeded the volume produced in previous history of humanity, which resulted in sharp decrease of its reserves.

In structure of preliminary fuel-energy resources of Uzbekistan, some 97% fell to share of oil and gas, 2.3% of coal and 0.7% of hydropower station. Despite large potential of renewable energy, its share does not reach 1%.

According to some calculations, the use of renewable energy can produce up to 51 billion tonnes of oil equivalent. Existing technologies will allow to produce electricity equal to 179 million tonnes of oil, which is three times more compared to volume of fuel production in the country and it allows to cut emission of carbonic acid gas and other substances by 447 million tonnes.

Sharp growth of prices for hydrocarbons pushed the world to think about alternative energy sources and the capacity of the photoelectric stations in Europe increased twice.

Total areas of solar energy collectors in the USA reached 15 million square meters, in Japan – 12 million square meters. In Israel, its capacity reached 1 million square meters, which ensure 75% of hot water supply.

Wind energy is developing as well and growth of its annual use in Europe makes up 40-45%. Use of renewable energy requires large investment, but they are fully repaid.

Today, several countries adopted progreammes on developing renewable energy sources. It is planned to increase share of renewable energy in total power balance to 50% by 2050.

Representatives of Intellekt Dialog presented their wind and solar power production facilities. Participants were briefed on use of these facilities.

It was said that increasing renewable energy in total power balance of Uzbekistan will ensure long-term energy independence, improve energy supply, decrease of gas emission, stable development of the country, etc.

It was said that Uzbekistan should develop national strategy for development of renewable energy and special state programme on use of renewable energy sources.
