Opium Trafficking Attempt Foiled in Termez
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An attempt to traffic narcotic substances has been thwarted in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region following a joint operation by customs authorities, the State Security Service and border troops.
The incident took place at an international trade center in the city of Termez, where a 27-year-old foreign national under surveillance was detained.
According to law enforcement agencies, he attempted to transfer three polyethylene packages concealed inside his body. The seized packages contained opium with a total weight of 203 grams.
Further оперативные measures led to the detention in Termez of a 40-year-old citizen believed to be the intended recipient of the illegal substances.
A pre-investigation inquiry is currently underway to establish all circumstances of the case and identify possible accomplices.
