Nurafshan mayor relieved of duties

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Ilkhom Klichkhanov, the mayor of Nurafshan in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region, has been relieved of his duties, the press service of the regional administration said.

Klichkhanov had headed Nurafshan since April 2023. According to the regional administration, he will continue his work in a new position.

The performance of local officials was previously discussed during a videoconference meeting chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in April this year.

At the meeting, the president criticised several local leaders over their engagement with entrepreneurs.

Referring to the situation in Nurafshan, Mirziyoyev said a local entrepreneur had been unable to begin construction work for two years because of bureaucratic obstacles, while city officials were focused on determining how information about the problem had reached the president.

The regional administration did not specify the reasons for Klichkhanov’s dismissal.
