Jewellery smuggling attempt foiled at Tajik border
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Customs officers in Uzbekistan’s Tashkent region have prevented an attempt to illegally import jewellery across the Uzbek-Tajik border.
According to the Customs Committee, a citizen attempted to cross the state border on foot. During customs inspection using specialised scanning equipment, officers discovered that the individual was concealing jewellery inside his clothing.
The inspection resulted in the seizure of jewellery items with a total weight of 83.7 grams.
The value of the items was estimated at approximately 85 million soums.
Customs authorities said inspections and the necessary procedural measures are currently underway in connection with the incident.
