NOC hosts a meeting with representatives of the World Taekwondo Foundation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 February, the National Olympic Committee (NOC) hosted a meeting with representatives of the World Taekwondo Foundation, during which the President of the National Olympic Committee Umid Akhmatdjanov, the NOC Vice President and the WTF Taekwondo Association Chairman Ahmadjon Rahimov and other specialists of the associations took part.

In the course of the dialogue, questions were raised about the development and widespread popularization of taekwondo in Uzbekistan, and achieving high results at the Olympic Games.

Welcoming the guests, Umid noted that cooperation with representatives of the taekwondo homeland would be effective for us.

“Welcome to Uzbekistan. A few months ago, Ahmadjon Rakhimov and I visited Korea on a working visit, and then we reached agreement on the development of taekwondo. At the moment, we have developed a strategy for preparing athletes for the Olympics in Tokyo, where we set goals and objectives for achieving success, in particular the development of taekwondo in the country. Cooperating with you, we certainly plan to achieve high results. Recently, our athletes held training camps in Korea. I hope that the popularization of taekwondo in our country with your help, joint cooperation will be productive,” said the head of the NOC.

In turn, the head of the foundation Sang Wook Lee supported the initiative and noted that he was ready to cooperate.

“Thank you for the warm welcome. Korea and Uzbekistan have a lot in common. Taekwondo is considered a sport where physical and psychological culture is combined. We are also pleased with the fact that the head of the NOC pays such attention to taekwondo. The main goal of our foundation is the development of taekwondo all over the world. The president of our country is also interested in taekwondo, and this sport is included in our system of the Armed Forces. At a meeting with representatives of the Korean diaspora in Uzbekistan, we raised not only issues of cooperation, but also asked to contribute to the development of taekwondo. We are also ready to work with the taekwondo association of Uzbekistan to achieve a common goal - to develop this Olympic sport,” Sang Wook Lee said.

Umid Akhmatdjanov said that taekwondo circles are working in preschool educational institutions of Uzbekistan, which undoubtedly contributes to the popularity of this sport. This news of course delighted guests.
