Mirziyoyev reviews Fergana airport modernization project
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During his visit to the Fergana region, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was presented with the concept for the modernization of Fergana International Airport, aimed at upgrading infrastructure and expanding its capacity.
It was noted that the current terminal has been in operation for more than 30 years and no longer fully meets modern requirements in terms of passenger throughput, service quality, and the development of both aviation and auxiliary services.
In this regard, a comprehensive modernization project has been developed, providing for the expansion of flight geography, improvement of passenger service quality, and adaptation of infrastructure to the growing business activity and tourist flow in the region.
During the presentation, plans were reviewed to extend and expand the runway, modernize the airfield infrastructure, and construct new passenger and cargo terminals.
According to the project, the new passenger terminal with an area of around 20,000 square meters will be able to serve up to 1,200 passengers simultaneously, roughly double the current capacity. The plan also includes additional aircraft parking stands, increasing capacity to up to ten aircraft.
The internal infrastructure of the terminal will include spacious waiting areas, modern service zones, upgraded registration and control systems, as well as separate facilities for official delegations.
The head of state emphasized that the airport serves as a key “gateway” to the region and provided recommendations on ensuring modern service standards, improving transport accessibility, and developing supporting infrastructure.
It was also highlighted that the project should be implemented in accordance with international standards, including the involvement of foreign operators with relevant experience in airport design, construction, and management.
The modernization of the airport is expected to strengthen transport connectivity in the Fergana Valley, increase tourist flows, and enhance the region’s role as an important logistics hub.
At the end of the visit program, the President returned to Tashkent.
