Is industrial development effective in the regions?

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Experts from the Institute for Forecasting and Macroeconomic Research (IPMI) analyzed the dynamics and trends in the industrialization of the regional economy in 2017-2022.

As the analysis showed, the industry of Uzbekistan is characterized by dynamic development: in 2017-2022, production growth amounted to 134.2%, which is higher than GDP growth (129.5%).

In the regional context, the outstripping growth of industry (by 1.4-1.9 times) was achieved in Andijan, Namangan, Khorezm, Jizzakh, Tashkent, Samarkand, Syrdarya regions and the city of Tashkent, by increasing production capacities, stimulating investment and entrepreneurial activity ( mainly, the production of textile and food products, rubber and plastics, building materials, electronic devices, electrical equipment, automotive, metallurgy).

Modern forms of organization and management of production (special economic zones, small industrial zones, technology parks, clusters) have been widely introduced, the purpose of which is the effective use of local resources and the potential of territories. As a result, the contribution to the industrial production of the country created in 2017-2022, 20 SEZs increased to 4.9% in 2022, 506 clusters - up to 5.2% and 317 MPZs - up to 1, 2%.

What results have been achieved in terms of transformation and diversification of the regional industry?

- the share of industry in the GRP of 10 regions of the country increased (Andijan, Bukhara, Jizzakh, Navoi, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya, Syrdarya, Tashkent and Khorezm regions);

- the contribution of medium-tech products to the manufacturing industry in most regions has increased (Andijan, Jizzakh, Khorezm, Fergana, Kashkadarya, Namangan and Syrdarya regions);

- the level of diversification of the manufacturing industry of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Andijan, Namangan, Samarkand regions has increased;

- the disproportion of the less industrialized Bukhara, Jizzakh, Namangan and Khorezm regions has decreased (approximation of per capita industrial production in the region to the republican parameter).

In general, as a result of effective reforms of the country’s regional policy for 2017-2022, an increase in the industrial potential and competitiveness of the territories was achieved. In conclusion, it can be noted that in the future, the industrial development of the regions should be focused on ensuring a qualitative transformation by increasing the efficiency of production factors (human capital, resource-saving technologies, innovations, etc.)
