Govn’t sets target parameters for GM Uzbekistan on localization level
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- GM Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US car maker, will produce 86,100 units of Nexia models in 2010 and increase localization level to 56%.

Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution "On programme of localization of production of ready products, spare parts and materials based on industrial cooperation for 2010", which was signed on 23 March.

The Uzbek car maker will also produce 20,900 units of Damas model, while localization level will reach 52.1%.

GM Uzbekistan will manufacture 70,000 units of Matiz model, including M300 model. The plant plans to launch M300 model production, which is also known as Chevrolet Spark, in the third quarter of 2010. The document said the localization level of Matiz model will be 53.5%.

In line with the programme, the car producer will output 22,000 units of Lacetti model and localization level of this model will make up 21-28%.

Uzavtosanoat and South Korea’s Daewoo Motor created a joint venture - UzDaewoo Auto - on parity conditions with the charter capital of US$200 million. In 1996, the venture launched car production plant with the cost of US$650 million in Asaka city of Andijan region. The capacity of the venture is 200,000 cars per year.

In May 2005, Uzavtosanoat purchased 50% shares of Daewoo Motor in UzDaewoo Auto for about US$110 million.

General Motors and Uzavtosanoat completed process of creation of GM Uzbekistan on the base of UzDaewooAuto in the end of March 2008. The charter capital of new venture is US$266.7 million.

General Motors owns 25% shares and plus one share in the new venture and it can increase its share up to 40%. Currently, Uzavtosanoat possesses 75% shares in GM Uzbekistan.

According to Automobile Producers of the European Business Association, GM Uzbekistan’s cars entered to the Top-10 the most sold foreign cars in Russia in 2009.

GM Uzbekistan increased car output by 5.1% year-on-year in 2009 to 205,011 units, the Uzbek official statistics said.

The plant plans to raise car output by 7.3% in 2010 to 220,000 units. The venture also assembles Captiva and Epica models.
