GM Powertrain Uzbekistan produces first engines in test mode
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan, an Uzbek-US joint venture on production of automobile engines, produced first engines in test mode.

It is expected that the enterprise will launch serial production of engines at the end of 2011 after all necessary tests and certification process completed. It is planned that the enterprise will reach its full capacity in 2013.

The joint venture construction has been started in line with the presidential resolution from 16 December 2008 on creation of the enterprise with foreign investments on production of power units General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan.

Unique and difficult industrial enterprise has been created in the result of implementation of the project with the cost of US$521.8 million.

New enterprise is located at 40 hectares, while production capacities make up 44,700 square meters.

General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan will produce BDONC engines with working volume of 1.2 liters (82 horsepower) and 1.5 liters (115 horsepower). These engines are developed by General Motors and used in global models of the company.

It is expected that General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan will supply its products to cars of GM Uzbekistan and exported to other enterprises of GM. General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan already received orders from other enterprises of GM.

The localization level will make 50% at the start of serial production and it will gradually reach 82%.

The enterprise is equipped with modern equipment for melting and molding aluminum, heat treatment, processing of cylinder blocks, etc. Modern equipment will allow to control all technological process and products quality, which will allow to meet international ecologic security standards.

The enterprise, which will have melting and assembling production in one site, will become the only such enterprise of GM worldwide.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited the joint venture and familiarized with its activity on 28 August 2011. The plant is located at Zangiota district of Tashkent region.

Uzbek leader underlined that at production of engine, it is necessary to ensure high quality and ensure rigid control.
