Economy 06/09/2007 EurAsEC panel to discuss Customs Union legal basis
There are more than 20 items on the agenda of the 37th session of the Integration Committee of the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEC) that is to be held in Moscow on Wednesday.

The principal item is connected with the formation of a legal basis for EurAsEC’s Customs Union. Information on this subject is to be presented by EurAsEC Secretary-General Grigory Rapota.

A EurAsEC press service official has told Itar-Tass that the session is to be attended by Sergei Naryshkin, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister and presidential special representative in charge of the development of integrational cooperation with members of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Participants in the session are to discuss proposals on the elaboration of an inter-state purpose-oriented programme for the strengthening and equipment of the outer borders of the EurAsEC member-states and on a draft Protocol on the Establishment of a Common Insurance Market of the EurAsEC member-states, the press service official pointed out.

The Vice-Premiers of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are also to consider a draft Agreement on the Development of an International Leasing of Farm Equipment, Machinery, Mechanisms, and Transport Vehicles used in the agri-industrial complexes and are to introduce amendments to the checklists of commodities and technologies subject to expert monitoring.

Summing up the results of the Integration Committee’s previous, the 36th, session held in Moscow on July 17, Naryshkin told journalists, "An important decision was taken that an Interstate Council will be the supreme body of the Customs Union. It was also suggested and approved that the EurAsEC Court be the agency for resolving disputes".

Participants in the 36th session "noted that intra-state coordination of 24 basic documents that constitute the legal basis of the Customs Union is under way," Naryshkin pointed out.
