Sports 01/12/2008 Djeparov considering Chelsea stint
Server Djeparov
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- AFC Player of the Year 2008 Server Djeparov is considering the month-long training stint with English Premiership giants Chelsea FC.

The training is part of an agreement between AFC and Chelsea FC to develop Asian football. Chelsea is the official partner AFC’s Vision Asia project.

“I am flattered at getting the chance to train with some of the best players in England. I will have to chalk out a plan and talk to the club about releasing me next season for this,” the mercurial midfielder told www.the-afc.com.

The 26-year-old also got a offer from Russian champions Rubin and is willing to take up another challenge in his career.

“I know there are some offers for me but at present I am a Bunyodkor player. I am ready to leave if there is a good offer from either a Russian or European club,” he said.

The Bunyodkor ace, who led the 2008 Uzbek league and cup winners to the AFC Champions League semi-finals this year, felt that this was the best season of his career.

“I played for a new club and won two domestic titles and completed the hat-trick by becoming the topscorer of the league for the first time. Secondly, we made it to the semi-finals of the premier club competition of the continent. To be among the top five players in Asia in itself was a big achievement for me and I was lost for words when I was chosen the best,” Djeparov said.

The Uzbek international was also optimistic of the national team’s chances in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“The critics have ruled us out after the first two defeats but I feel we still have a chance to qualify for the FIFA World Cup. We have five matches to play and we can make it as the group runners-up or at least can go through the playoff by finishing third.”
