Development of horticulture and cattle breeding discussed in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Scientific-research institute named after Shreder in Tashkent region hosted a conference titled “Role of modern science in development of horticulture and cattle breeding in Uzbekistan: problems and ways of their solving” on 6 July 2011.

The event was organized by the Committee of Legislative Chamber on science, education, culture and sport at the assistance f the Ministry for Agriculture and Water Resources of Uzbekistan. MPs of Legislative Chamber, representatives of Ministry for Agriculture and Water Resources, scientific-research institutes, scholars participated at the event.

It was noted that yield in horticulture made up 93 metric centners per hectare in 2010. Overall, there are gardens at 127,900 hectares. Currently, there are 2,450.9 hectares of intensive gardens and they have 4.213 million saplings of apple, pears and other fruit trees, which were imported from Serbia, Poland, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Scientific-research institute named after Shreder controls all created gardens, using modern agro-technical methods on growing saplings, and study on adapting them to climate of Uzbekistan. Employees of the institute also work on creation of new fruit trees and introduction of science in production in places.

Participants noted that horticulture in Uzbekistan is developing in several directions. This is creation of runt fruit trees, gardens on Japanese and Chinese technologies on creation of fruit gardens in limited fields. Several gardens in Samarkand, Tashkent and Ferghana region were created with these methods.

The event also discussed issues of breeding olive and pistachio trees in various regions of Uzbekistan. It was said that special research institute should be created to study olive trees. Participants considered foreign technologies on breeding trees.

The conference also discussed issues of developing cattle-breeding and veterinary. It was said that currently there are 2,519 veterinary points. Number of cattle is increasing in Uzbekistan each year and it is necessary to develop veterinary service in the country.

Participants of the conference adopted recommendations directed at further developing horticulture and cattle breeding in Uzbekistan.
