Ichan-Qala, the historical heart of Khiva city, has been selected as the venue for the Festival this year as it is a centre of many traditional forms of Uzbek art, where ancient craft traditions of the people have been passed down from generation to generation. No city offers an entire part of shakhristan (inner town) as well preserved as Ichan-Qala in Khiva. It is a historical and architectural storehouse giving one an impression of a medieval Central Asian city.
Khiva is a museum-city under an open sky. Legend has it that it was founded by Shem, the son of Noah. In the 16th century it was the capital of the dynasty of Timurids and served as a centre of the khanate for three centuries. Welcome to Asrlar sadosi Festival of Traditional Culture in Khiva.
