Ammonia leak reported at Indorama Qo‘qon facility

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An incident involving an ammonia leak occurred at the site of Indorama Qo‘qon Fertilizers and Chemicals JSC (IKF) during the transfer of the substance from a railway tank to stationary storage reservoirs, the company said in a statement.

Preliminary data indicates that approximately 500 kilograms of ammonia were released into the atmosphere.

According to initial findings, the incident may have been caused by rapid evaporation triggered by abnormally high temperatures recorded in Uzbekistan in May 2025.

The leak reportedly occurred at the moment of connecting the hose equipment during the unloading process.

The facility’s emergency response teams immediately began containing and eliminating the consequences of the leak. In cooperation with units of the Civil Protection Service and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, measures were taken to neutralize ammonia vapors through water spraying inside and around the tank, as well as by shutting off valves.

According to the company, no injuries were reported, and no medical assistance was required. The situation has been fully stabilized, and production activities at the facility have resumed.

Local authorities were promptly informed of the incident.

The statement notes that IKF management is actively cooperating with relevant regulatory bodies, ensuring full transparency and strict adherence to all safety standards.

A comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the root causes and prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to information provided by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the incident occurred on May 16 at approximately 8:30 p.m.

Specialized emergency teams and necessary equipment were promptly dispatched to the scene. Thanks to swift action, the consequences of the leak were quickly contained.

Preliminary reports indicate that seven people sought medical assistance. After undergoing examinations and confirming their satisfactory health conditions, all those affected were discharged and sent home.
