Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Khokim of Samarkand region Erkinjon Turdimov and EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia Zsuzsanna Hargitai presented the Green City Action Plan for Samarkand (GCAP).

It is the first municipality in Uzbekistan to join the EBRD’s flagship Green Cities programme. The GCAP is an important tool to help Samarkand define its sustainable development vision and strategic goals, as well as the actions and investments needed to address high priority environmental issues.

In addition to achieving the above goals, GCAP will also help improve the living standards of the local population. Under the GCAP, the city and the EBRD will develop and implement an inclusive, sustainable and sustainable action plan for Samarkand.

It will take into account the opinions and ideas of the local community on how to make their hometown greener and improve the quality of life in it. The anchor project of the Green City Action Plan will be the replacement of municipal rolling stock with electric buses.

It is expected that the first delivery of such electric buses will take place in mid-May, when the 32nd annual meeting and business forum of the EBRD will be held in Samarkand.
