Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 20 September, the “Geoferma Final” conference was held at the Uzbekcosmos Agency, dedicated to the results of the pilot project “Raqamli Samarqand”.

This pilot project was implemented within the framework of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On measures to further improve the activities of the Agency for Space Research and Technology” by the Uzbek Space Agency jointly with the French company Airbus at the expense of grant funds from the French government under the FASEP program. The grant amount was 1 million euros.

The main goal of the pilot project was to introduce a space monitoring system to calculate the areas of agricultural lands and determine their exact boundaries, inventory agricultural lands and determine the actual sown areas of cotton and wheat on an area of 2,223 km2 in the Jomboy, Payaryk and Okdarya districts of the Samarkand region.

The project lasted 16 months and was implemented in three stages, during which satellite images were obtained for the above-mentioned areas, interviews were conducted with farms, and the crops sown in these areas were digitized and classified by type.

Also, during the project, employees of the UzbekCosmos Agency increased their knowledge, skills and abilities in the use of space technologies, thanks to the experience of Airbus specialists.

Undoubtedly, the knowledge gained is actively used within the framework of the implementation of the State Space Monitoring Program for 2023-2024, approved by Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated November 23, 2022 No. PP-429 “On additional measures for the further development of the space industry.” According to this Program, the UzbekCosmos Agency is carrying out work on state space monitoring in the fields of agriculture, water, forestry, ecology, land relations, in the field of geology and mineral resources.

The event was opened with a welcoming speech by the director of the UzbekCosmos Agency, Shukhrat Kadyrov, in which he noted the importance of this pilot project and the significance of its results.

Following the meeting, the results of the pilot project “Raqamli Samarqand”, as well as further development and cooperation in the field of space technologies were discussed.

The event was attended by representatives of the French Embassy in Uzbekistan, Airbus, ministries and departments of our country.
