Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The regular, 53rd meeting of the Council of Heads of Security Agencies and Special Services (SASS) of the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Baku. On the same day, a meeting was held between the heads of delegations and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilkham Aliyev.

At the plenary session, the main attention was paid to improving the interaction of special services in the fight against terrorism and organized crime.

Members of the SASS outlined ways to increase the level of cooperation in order to neutralize threats to the security of CIS member states associated with the activation of terrorist organizations operating in Afghanistan.

The participants summed up the results of work in 2023 to study the problems of countering terrorism and other manifestations of extremism.

The meeting participants heard from the head of the Commonwealth Anti-Terrorism Center about the results of joint anti-terrorist exercises of the competent authorities of the CIS member states “Eurasia-Antiterror - 2023” and the First CIS Conference on Combating Terrorism and Extremism (September 2023, Kyrgyz Republic).

In addition, the Council has developed additional joint measures aimed at combating cross-border drug gangs.

Also during the event, meetings of the SASS working bodies in various areas of activity were held.
