Zamin Foundation: Biodiversity conservation as an investment and economic factor

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- During her visit to the Kashkadarya region, Ziroat Mirziyoyeva visited the Hosildor zamin educational nursery complex, created to preserve local varieties of fruit trees, adapt them to changing climatic conditions, as well as multiply by the in-vitro laboratory method.

The goals of the project are to increase the efficiency of resource use, solve the problems of soil degradation, promote the transition to a "green" economy, and develop the agrobiodiversity of the regions. In the drought-prone region of Central Asia, about 31 million hectares are degraded.

The Zamin Foundation team talked to the audience and got acquainted with the training program, designed for 10 months and including practical exercises on the application of modern advanced technologies for biodiversity conservation and the use of environmentally friendly technologies.

The curriculum was developed with the participation of FAO experts, specialists from the International Agricultural University in Tashkent and the Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture and Winemaking named after Academician M. Mirzaev, who will be involved in conducting seminars and trainings at all stages of the educational process.

During a conversation with students, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Zamin Foundation noted that the preservation of agro- and biodiversity is our responsibility to future generations.

The project was created under an agreement between the Zamin Foundation, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Khokimiyat of Kashkadarya region with the support of the European Union and the World Bank.
