Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Prize-winner of the World Speed Skating Championship, Russian Danila Semerikov intends to change his sports citizenship and compete for Uzbekistan.
As TASS reports with reference to the President of the Russian Skating Union Nikolai Gulyaev, Semerikov expressed a desire to represent Uzbekistan at international competitions. The Winter Sports Association of Uzbekistan has already sent a corresponding letter, and the athlete himself has submitted an application.
However, according to Gulyaev, the full package of documents has not yet been provided, so the executive committee of the Russian Skating Union did not consider this issue. He also added that the Union does not plan to assemble an executive committee specifically for this case.
Nikolai Gulyaev noted that Danila Semerikov is a very strong athlete.
The 29-year-old speed skater won bronze medals at the World Championships in the team pursuit three times (2019, 2020, 2021), as well as bronze at the 2019 World Championships at a distance of 10,000 m. In addition, he has two silver medals at the European Championships in the team race pursuit (2018, 2020) and bronze in mass start (2020).
