World Bank supports land reforms in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A constructive exchange of views took place during a meeting with World Bank expert David Egiashvili on the land reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan.

Particular attention was given to the significance of Presidential Decree No. PF-18, dated 3 February 2025, "On Further Measures to Increase the Fertility of Agricultural Lands and Create Favorable Conditions for Attracting Investment in the Sector."

The expert highly praised the new measures, emphasizing that the decree granted farmers significantly more freedom. Specifically, they are now able to independently choose the agricultural crops to cultivate without external interference. An important step was also the extension of the lease term for land plots from 30 to 49 years, which will ensure stability and long-term planning in the agricultural sector.

Another key measure was the expansion of participants in land auctions: now entrepreneurs from other regions, individuals who have previously acquired land, as well as joint ventures and foreign companies, are allowed to participate. This will contribute to attracting investment and fostering competition.

Moreover, the reforms ensure uninterrupted water and electricity supply to farms, creating comfortable conditions for agricultural activities.

At the end of the meeting, the parties discussed further steps to increase the efficiency of both agricultural and non-agricultural land use.

Following the negotiations, key directions for the development of the land market in Uzbekistan were outlined, aimed at the sustainable growth of the sector and the attraction of new investments.
