World Bank portfolio in Uzbekistan reaches US$4.65 billion
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A meeting took place in Tashkent between representatives of the World Bank and the heads of ministries and agencies responsible for implementing key socio-economic projects financed with the support of the World Bank.
Currently, the World Bank's portfolio in Uzbekistan includes 23 projects with a total financial commitment of US$4.65 billion. Of this amount, approximately 75% (US$3.4 billion) is provided as concessional loans by the International Development Association (IDA), which is part of the World Bank Group.
During the meeting, World Bank representatives and project implementation groups (PIGs) from relevant ministries discussed priority measures aimed at accelerating project implementation, ensuring compliance with the World Bank’s social and environmental standards, improving procurement procedures, and addressing other operational matters.
Special attention was given to projects in sectors such as energy, agriculture, urban and rural infrastructure, irrigation, water supply and sanitation, land degradation restoration, as well as tax and innovation systems.
Both parties confirmed their commitment to effectively achieving the goals of these initiatives aimed at the economic development of Uzbekistan and improving the living standards of its citizens.
