Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 28 November 2008 UNDP project “Capacity Building on Clean Development Mechanism in Uzbekistan” will conduct training workshop dedicated to searching financial sources for CDM projects and conducting negotiations on carbon deals.

As any investment project, the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) has a number of possible financing models. This can be a corporate financing or equipment lease financing, an equity investment or supplier credits. However, the specific CDM peculiarities influence the process of searching potential investors. The risks of a conventional investment project are complemented by the specific CDM risks attributive to its implementation steps, such as endorsement, validation and registration, monitoring, certification and issuance of Certified Emission Reductions (CERs).

The matters of sophisticated approach to searching financial sources for CDM projects, as well as required skills in negotiating carbon contracts are the major topics of the training workshop of UNDP project “Capacity Building on Clean Development Mechanism in Uzbekistan” to be held on 28 November 2008 in the conference hall ’Turquoise” of the Radisson SAS hotel, Tashkent.

The target audience of the workshop are both specialists directly involved in the development of CDM project documentation and managers of different level who are the potential parties in carbon deal negotiations. The issues of CDM project financing and appropriate negotiation process might be interesting to the national and international law and audit companies, as well as foreign enterprises working at Uzbekistan’s market.

Summarizing the results of the year the UNDP project will present the tangible outputs of its activity - publications, reference manuals, information newsletters, along with an electronic CDM library, which is a compilation on CDs of all useful information.

With a view to presenting the workshop materials to the general public the UNDP project plans to arrange a mass media briefing.
