The workshop was organized by joint project of UNDP and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan "Supporting to the development of arbitration courts and other alternative methods of dispute settlement in the Republic of Uzbekistan" (Arbitration project). The project focuses on development of the arbitration courts and other alternative ways of dispute resolution through creation of Arbitration Development Center, which was officially opened in early May 2008.

During the workshop, the participants got familiarized with the Arbitration Development Center under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, modern trends in arbitration and mediation, procedures of the arbitration courts, selection of arbitrators and other related issues.

Shavkat Juraboev, Manager of Arbitration project, said that the project is planning to organize similar workshop in other regions of Uzbekistan to promote arbitration and mediation and raise awareness of local businesses and population on procedures of the arbitration courts, as well as train arbitrators.
