Intergovernmental working group was created to assist for effective implementation of the project and ensure effective cooperation of all interested sides. The group includes representatives of State Nature Protection Committee, Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture and Water Management, State Land, Geodesy, Cartography and Cadaster Committee, Council of Ministers of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekneftegaz, Lukoil, Petronas Carigali, Gazprom, Aral Sea, KNOC, KOGAS, CNPC, Science Academy and its institutes, Armon Environment Law Center.
The first meeting of the group was held on 4 October 2011 in Tashkent. The participants discussed goals of the project and assistance of its implementation.
The second meeting dedicated to discussion of the project implementation and achieved results, including developed changes and amendments to 8 laws of Uzbekistan, prepared plant of zoning of Ustyurt and issues on reorganization of reserve of Saygach. In the result of talks, the resolution was adopted and further action plan of the project was developed.
The UNDP-GEF project “Mainstreaming Biodiversity into Uzbekistan`s Oil-and-Gas Sector Policies and Operations” has been implemented in Uzbekistan since November 2010. It is directed at mainstreaming biodiversity mechanisms to oil and gas sector of Uzbekistan”. Ustyurt plateau has been selected as pilot area of the project.
