Viet Nam beat Uzbekistan’s Skif 3-0 to clinch their second win at the Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship-VTC Salonpas Cup on Wednesday.

Trio Bui Thi Hue, Dinh Thi Dieu Chau and Nguyen Thi Ngoc Hoa smashed superbly to help the hosts take the first set 25-13.

In the second set, team coach Thai Thanh Tung tried out substitutes Nguyen Thi Xuan and setter Le Thi Hong and the team took the set 25-19, VNS reported.

Despite losing the first two sets in a relatively one-sided match, Uzbekistan’s Skif made no changes in his team’s line-up for the third set, which they lost 10-25.

It was the former-Soviet team’s fourth consecutive defeat in the championship.

After four matches, Viet Nam are now in third place, level with China’s Dalian Huanyu, North Korea’s Sobaeksu and Hisamisu Seiyaku Spring from Japan.

Meanwhile, Rahat from Kazakstan and Thailand’s Sangsom remain at the top of the leader board after winning their matches on Wednesday. Rahat, the title winners in 2004, beat China’s Dalian Huanyu 3-0 (25-18, 27-25, 25-17), while Sangsom Thais beat Japan’s Seiyaku Spring 3-1 (25-13, 28-30, 25-19, 25-21).

Rahat’s Pavlova Yelena, who has played in five world championships, is on track to receive the best player award after a stunning performance on Wednesday.
