Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —
During the meeting, the parties discussed cooperation initiatives developed following Mr. Tang’s official visit to Uzbekistan in May of this year. In particular, they addressed the development of a new National Intellectual Property Strategy for 2027–2030, the identification of promising geographical indications, and their international registration and promotion.
The discussion also covered the final stage of the WIPO program “Training, Mentoring and Matchmaking for Women Entrepreneurs,” scheduled for September–October this year. A proposal was made to hold this important event in either Tashkent or Samarkand.
As part of the WIPO online program “Training, Mentoring and Matchmaking for Women Entrepreneurs,” which took place from 3 September 2024 to 31 January 2025, Uzbek women entrepreneurs actively participated.
The Minister of Justice expressed gratitude to the WIPO Director General for his continued support across all areas of cooperation and proposed the organization of a special exhibition dedicated to promoting Uzbekistan’s geographical indications at the WIPO headquarters during the General Assembly session planned for 2026.
During the meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center.
The memorandum is aimed at resolving intellectual property disputes through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms based on international standards, as well as enhancing the knowledge and skills of domestic mediators.
This meeting marked an important step toward further strengthening the strategic partnership between WIPO and Uzbekistan.
