Will the DACUM method help develop effective training programs?
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- "The development of training programs on the basis of DACUM method” is the title of the training for teachers of the Training Center under the Ministry of Finance, as well as Banking and Finance Academy of Uzbekistan, was conducted in the capital's business center "Poytaht".

DACUM – an abbreviation for "developing a curriculum", means that in the process developing professional educational programs, in addition to participation of teachers there is an involvement of professional experts. Experts help to make the program more interesting and capacious by reducing redundant information from the programs, which in turn has a positive impact on performance due to the practicality of the transmitted information.

According Nodir Narkobulov, a representative of the "Budget System Reform in Uzbekistan" Project, the DACUM method gives the teachers an opportunity to develop a program based on practice separately for each category of specialists that are being trained, i.e. trainees will not be receiving general knowledge, but rather will be taught some practical skills, for example skills of preparing a financial statement, book-keeping skills, etc. Of course in the beginning it will be rather challenging, since all the programs will need to be revised, however in the future it will give its positive results.

The organizers of this 4-day training are the UNDP "Budget System Reform in Uzbekistan" project and the Training Center under the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan.

Shakhnoza Nasretdinova, a participant of this training and a professor at the Banking and Finance Academy, an institution where professionals of financial sector are trained and improve their skills and knowledge, said in an interview: “This kind of training helps us to improve the educational program based on which our students are trained to make it more interesting and capacious. I hope I can use this experience in the future, which in its turn will help me prepare highly qualified professionals”.

This training was previously proposed by an international expert and incorporated into Center’s "Strategy to improve the quality of education", and today is used by the teachers of the Center in the process of curriculum development. Today's training is a logical continuation of the work that had begun in 2009, when the method was first presented to the faculty of the Training Center under the Ministry of Finance of Uzbekistan.

To date, the changes in the economy require a lot of time and effort from the staff of the Training Center (and any educational institution) for curriculum development, and the DACUM method will help to quickly grasp the situation by combining the knowledge of teachers and skills of experts.

The experts of DVV International Representative office in Uzbekistan were invited as instructors for the training on "the Development of training programs based on a modular approach”. These experts within one week trained teachers the basics of practical curriculum design using the method of DACUM.

The ‘Budget System Reform in Uzbekistan’ project is a joint project undertaken by UNDP and the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It aims at strengthening the capacity of reforms towards improving the efficiency, accountability and transparency of the Uzbekistan’s budget system.
