What is the price of small US games? We analyze the example of the arrest of Huawei financial director Meng Wanzhou

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Canada released Huawei’s financial director Meng Wanzhou almost three years later. Although this detention should not have happened at all. According to the Chinese side, the case was completely fabricated and political from the very beginning.

The US and Canada should use their powers to arrest real criminals, not pawns in political games. This story caused a huge damage to international business relations around the world, because if business leaders can easily become targets for false accusations, then how to do business with Western partners? The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Uzbekistan reports.

In December 2018, the political nature of the case against Meng Wanzhou was not hidden, and US President Donald Trump himself, when amid trade friction between Beijing and Washington, said that he was ready to drop the charges if China made trade concessions. “If I thought this would benefit the biggest trade deal ever made and, most importantly, national security, I would certainly intervene if I felt it necessary,” Trump said. By the way, the Canadians were very indignant when they realized that they had been deceived into political games under an alleged legitimate pretext. In the past few years, the United States has suddenly become aware of China as a rising power with an economy that will eclipse the United States for the next several decades. And instead of calmly coping with the rise of the PRC, the Americans panicked.

Washington has tried to slow China’s growth in every possible way, including accusations of genocide, fomenting chaos in Chinese regions, and inciting separatism. The story of the arrest of Meng Wanzhou is another ugly attempt to put pressure on the PRC. However, almost all of these measures, including Maine’s arrest, backfired. For example, the US rush to create the AUKUS defense alliance has caused some damage to relations within NATO and once again undermined global confidence in the reliability of the United States as a partner.

Washington’s defamation of the Xinjiang genocide or the fictional story of "a virus leaking from a laboratory in Wuhan" are all artificial and unfounded accusations that undermine confidence in the veracity of any US statements. Coupled with unfounded statements about "weapons of mass destruction" on the eve of the war with Iraq, this makes people in many countries think - is it worth trusting Washington at all?

The US trade war against China not only damaged the United States economy, but also plunged the international trade system into chaos, which ultimately pushed China towards even greater technological independence. The US-led arrest of Meng Wanzhou on very dubious charges infuriated Canadians and perfectly demonstrated to the rest of the world that the US would go to any lengths, including arresting top executives of large corporations, in order to play its petty games.

After the shameful end of the story of Meng Wanzhou for the United States, the American authorities should stop and take a few deep breaths. Such incidents in the modern world simply should not be repeated. The arrest of the corporation’s CFO has instilled fear in the leaders of many large companies, who, it turns out, at any moment may lose their freedom beyond their national borders. This has nothing to do with the concepts of "free trade" and "open world". These are political games from the past. The United States, as a leader, still has to live up to the era.
