Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 25 November 2022, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov received Deputy Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) Markus Potzel.

During the conversation, the efforts of Uzbekistan and the UN to resolve the Afghan problem, post-conflict development of the country were discussed. The parties stressed the leading role of the UN in solving the urgent problems of Afghanistan.

Potzel highly appreciated the policy pursued by the leadership of our country for the peaceful resolution of the long-term Afghan crisis and the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to form a high-level international negotiating group to prepare and agree with the Afghan authorities an algorithm for the phased fulfillment of the obligations of the parties.

A thorough exchange of views also took place on the priority areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNAMA on the provision of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, the restoration of the national economy of Afghanistan and the implementation of various infrastructure projects in the country.

The parties expressed their readiness to continue working contacts to resolve topical issues on the Afghan problem.
