Uzmetkombinat to carry out modernization for US$67m
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbek Metal Combine (Uzmetkombinat), only ferrous metallurgy enterprise in Central Asia, will carry out modernization of production capacities for over US$67 million in 2009-2014.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On programme on measures on realization of important projects on modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of the production capacity for 2009-2014”. The company will realize seven various projects.

This year, the company plans to modernize the second section rolling shop. The reconstruction of the shop will allow to save natural gas and decrease prime cost of products. Exhaust-heat boiler of the shop is also under modernization, which will help to increase its efficiency and save energy resources.

Uzmetkombinat plans to increase production level to 695,000 tonnes by 2011 to satisfy internal market and export products.

The company is working on introducing energy saving technologies. The enterprise will spend 0.52 tonnes of standard fuel in 2011 compared to 0.61 tonnes in 2008. The electricity consumption will fall from 1.79 thousand kilowatt per hour to 1.71 thousand kilowatt per hour and natural gas from 0.34 thousand cubic meters to 0.28 thousand cubic meters.

Uzmetkombinat increased steel output by 10.8% in January-June 2009 to 374,100 tonnes. Production of ferrous metals grew by 9.5% to 362,000 tonnes in the reporting period.
