Uzbektelecom builds international package commutation center in Bukhara
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Joint-stock company Uzbektelecom completed construction of new hub of international package commutation center in Bukhara, which has data transfer capacity of 40 Gbps with opportunity to further expand it, the press service of the operator said.

Uzbektelecom said it is implementing a project “Expanding international package commutation center” in line with the presidential resolution “On measures on further developing national information-communication system of Uzbekistan”.

Within the first phase of the project, the company completed construction of new hub of the international package commutation center in Bukhara, which has data transfer capacity of 40 Gbps. The capacity of the hub can be expanded.

Uzbektelecom in cooperation with Japan’s NEC Corporation and Toyota Tsusho commissioned new DWDM-line with the speed of one lambda at 100 Gbps. New line connected Tashkent and Bukhara.

It is worth to mention that this is the first system, which works at the speed of 100 Gbps, in Central Asia. The system uses the most advanced technologies of coherent detection and correction, which is quite different from the traditional system of DWDM-system operating at 10 Gbps.

The project is directed at expanding capacity of data transfer channels, which will ensure reliable and high speed access of users to internet services.

Uzbektelecom launched international package commutation center in 2005 to provide access to internet to internet service providers. The capacity of the center was expended to 10 Gbps in 2011 and to 40 Gbps in 2012.

The company also realized projects to increase capacity of new and construction of new international lines with the operators of neighboring states to increase internet speed.

In the result, the internet speed to external channels rose by 15 times in last five years and reached 19250 Mbps. The tariff for external channel to ISPs fell by 14.5 times to US$233.27 per 1 Mbps.
