Uzbektelecom, Afghanistan delegation hold talsk in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Afghanistan led by Deputy Minister for Communication and Information Technologies Baryalay Hassam met the director-general of Uzbektelecom joint-stock company Shukhrat Sadikov in Tashkent on 17 December 2009.

During the meeting, the guests got acquainted on current affairs and perspectives of development of telecommunication network of Uzbektelecom, as well as several projects of the company.

Uzbektelecom realizes nine large projects in line with the resolution of the Uzbek President from 20 January 2009 “On additional measures on further development of production and social infrastructure”. One of the main projects is construction of communication line on such directions as Andijan-Osh, Kungrad-Beinau, Denau-Tursunzade, and Termez-Hairatan.

Within the project, the company completed laying optic-fiber communication line in directions of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan, installed equipment and launched in test mode.

Baryalay Hassam said Uzbekistan is strengthening support to Afghanistan in various directions. He said the delegation received information on dynamic ICT development in Uzbekistan. He added the cooperation of the countries in telecommunication sector is strengthening.

Currently, Afghanistan’s national operator Afghan Telecom Corp. is expanding access to neighbouring countries, including to Uzbekistan. Uzbektelecom is strategic partner.

As earlier reported, Afghan Telecom Corp. CEO Ahmad Rastman and Uzbektelecom director-general Shukhrat Sadikov signed a agreement on mutual providing international telecommunication services through fiber optic line, which provides direct communication and Internet service between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan and further to the CIS and foreign states.

The sides considered issues of further cooperation in telecommunication, increasing voice communication traffic and organization of transit, as well as expansion of international Internet channel capacity.
