Uzbekneftegaz to implement new project at Shurtanneftegaz
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekneftegaz national holding company will implement a project on increasing production of liquefied gas at Shurtanneftegaz unitary subsidiary enterprise with the cost of US$97.5 million, Prime-Tass reported quoting Uzbekneftegaz.

In line with the feasibility study, the project envisages construction of fifth and sixth line of propane-butane mixture production facilities with the capacity of 6 billion cubic meters of natural gas a year and additional production of 100,000 tonnes of liquefied gas a year.

The project will be financed due to own resources of Uzbekneftegaz at the size of US$47.5 million and loan of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development – US$50 million.

Earlier, it is planned that the project will be financed only due to own funds of Uzbekneftegaz, but later the government of Uzbekistan adopted to attract resources of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development. Initially it is planned to complete modernization by 2012. The works on installation of facilities will be started in the first half of 2010.

In 2007-2008, second, third and fourth line of propane-butane mixture production facilities at Shurtanneftegaz with the capacity of processing of 9 billion cubic meters of gas and producing 135,000 tonnes of liquefied gas a year.

This allowed to increase production of liquefied gas to 175,000 tonnes a year. The project with the cost of US$226.6 million by Shurtangasproduct JV, which was created by Shurtanneftegaz (50% share) and Swiss Zeromax GmbH and British Arch Energy Ltd (25% each). The project was financed due to foreign direct investments and funds of Uzbekneftegaz.

Shurtanneftegaz, located in Guzar of Kashakdarya region) uses seven oil and four gas condensate fields. The gas is supplied to the enterprise from Shurtan gas condensate field, one of the largest in Uzbekistan. Annually, it is extracted 15 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which comprises of 35% of Uzbekistan’s total production.

In 2001, Shurtan Gas-Chemical Complex with the cost of US$985 million was commissioned. The designed capacity of the enterprise is 125,000 tonnes of polyethylene, 137,000 tonnes of liquefied gas and 130,000 tonnes instable condensate a year.
