Economy 11/06/2007 Uzbekistan’s Uzdunrobita to dump DAMPS network June 10

Uzbek mobile operator Uzdunrobita, a subsidiary of Russian mobile company Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), will discontinue operations of its DAMPS network starting 10 June.

All DAMPS users will be transferred to the GSM network free of charge and offered an opportunity to keep their phone number, MTS said.

Uzdunrobita is licensed to provide mobile services in DAMPS and GSM standards everywhere in Uzbekistan until 2016.

Uzdunrobita, works under MTS-Uzbekistan brand, is Uzbekistan’s largest mobile operator with over 1.8 million users and more than 50% market share.
