Uzbekistan's Senate approves law to combat organizers of mass riots
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Senate of Uzbekistan has reviewed and approved the Law "On Amendments to Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan."
Modern challenges, including instability, mass riots, and escalating tensions in various regions of the world, pose a threat to public order and negatively affect the atmosphere of understanding and friendship between nations. Meanwhile, some criminal groups, exploiting gaps in the legislation, fund mass riots and recruit specially trained individuals to organize them.
The current version of Article 244 of the Criminal Code provides for responsibility for organizing mass riots, actively participating in them, and publicly inciting violence.
However, the existing legislation does not cover actions such as training for participation in mass riots, including preparation to use weapons, explosives, and other potentially dangerous items, as well as financing such activities.
The amendments aim to close this gap and ensure the inevitability of punishment. Specifically, the new version of Article 244 introduces criminal responsibility for undergoing training to prepare for mass riots (Part 3) and for financing their organization (Part 4).
The adopted law is intended to strengthen peace and stability in the country, enhance the fight against organized crime, and improve the system for preventing offenses.
