Uzbekistan’s Saida Mirziyoyeva Holds Talks in London

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Saida Mirziyoyeva, Head of the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan, held a series of meetings in London focused on expanding investment cooperation, facilitating Uzbek companies’ access to international capital markets, and advancing financial reforms in the country.

At a meeting with Varun Chandra, investment adviser to the UK Prime Minister, and Lord John Alderdice, the UK trade envoy for Central Asia and Azerbaijan, the parties discussed the successful international listing of the National Investment Fund of Uzbekistan (UzNIF). She said British business interest in Uzbekistan continues to grow, with total investments already exceeding $1 billion.

Mirziyoyeva also met with Franklin Templeton Chief Executive Officer Jenny Johnson. The discussions focused on the development of Uzbekistan’s capital markets, improvements to financial legislation, integration with international clearing systems, and the establishment of the Tashkent International Financial Centre. It was noted that preparations for the IPO were completed in a short timeframe and that the listing delivered strong results.

In talks with London Stock Exchange (LSE) Chief Executive Officer Julia Ann Hoggett, the parties reviewed the outcomes of the UzNIF listing and explored prospects for cooperation in sustainable finance, ESG standards, green bond issuance, and preparing Uzbek companies for global market entry. The LSE described the UzNIF listing as the largest IPO on its platform in the past five years.

Mirziyoyeva also held a meeting with Sergio Gor, Special Envoy of the President of the United States for South and Central Asia. The parties discussed further steps to deepen bilateral cooperation.

The meetings underscored growing international investor interest in Uzbekistan’s economy and the ongoing momentum of financial sector reforms in the country.
