In January-March 2009, the number of births was 131,600 persons and decreased by 16,900 persons or 11.4% year-on-year. The birth rate decreased from 21.9 pro mil in January-March 2008 to 19.3 pro mil in January-March 2009.
The decrease in birth rate was observed in Namangan region (from 23.9 to 17.8 pro mil), Andijan region (from 22.3 to 17.5 pro mil), Syrdarya region (from 23.2 to 19.5 pro mil) and Ferghana region (from 21.8 to 18.4 pro mil) .
The death rate has increased in Jizzakh region and Syrdarya region. The highest death rate remains in the city of Tashkent (7.3 pro mil).
Out of the total number of dead, 60.4% died of cardiovascular diseases, 6.9% - neoplasms, 6.9% - respiratory diseases, 5.9% - accidents, poisonings and traumas.
According to the preliminary data, in January-March of the current year 1,700 children died at the age under one year. The infant mortality rate decreased from 13.1 pro mil in January-March 2008 to 10.8 pro mil in January-March 2009.
Out of the total number of children died at the age under one year, 41% died of respiratory diseases, 39.1% - states occurring in perinatal period, 11.3% - congenital anomalies and 2.7% - infectious and parasitic diseases.
About 50,600 marriages and 4,400 divorces were registered in Uzbekistan in the reporting period. There were 7.4 marriages and 0.6 divorces per 1,000 population.
