Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan has announced that work is currently being carried out to safely burn off the gas that has accumulated in small amounts near the "M-25" mine in Boysun district of Surkhandarya region.
Media outlets had circulated information about the situation in the area, but the Ministry clarified that no unforeseen incidents have been recorded near the mine.
At present, planned work is underway to secure the site of the mine, which was the location of a methane emission event in September 2024. Regular monitoring of the area continues.
The Ministry of Energy explained that during the cleaning of mine No. 604, located in remote areas near the earth’s surface, a small amount of gas was collected in voids and collectors.
The ministry emphasized that efforts are now focused on safely burning off the accumulated gas to prevent the release of acidic gases into the atmosphere.
This process is a standard procedure aimed at environmental protection and fully complies with international industrial safety standards, according to the Ministry.
Additionally, the Ministry pointed out that the planned conservation and maintenance works include a series of operations that may be misunderstood by those unfamiliar with the details of the technological process. As an example of such misunderstanding, the Ministry referenced a video that circulated in connection with this incident.
