Uzbekistan's freight transport volume reaches record 1.5 billion tons in 2024

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — According to the National Statistics Committee, the total volume of freight transportation in Uzbekistan reached 1,521.2 million tons in 2024, setting a new record over the past five years. Compared to 2020, when the volume stood at 1,366.7 million tons, this represents an increase of more than 11%.

Road transport remains the backbone of the logistics system, accounting for 92% of all freight movement. In 2024, road transport operators moved 1.4 billion tons of cargo.

Rail transport also demonstrated significant performance, handling 73.9 million tons, or 4.9% of the total volume. Pipeline transport transferred 61.8 million tons of gas, contributing 4.1% to the transportation structure.

Although air transport accounts for less than 0.001% of the total volume, it remains a crucial component for urgent and high-value cargo. In 2024, air freight amounted to 14,400 tons.

Freight Transport Growth Over the Years:

2020: 1,366.7 million tons

2021: 1,420.2 million tons

2022: 1,420.9 million tons

2023: 1,455.7 million tons

2024: 1,521.2 million tons

Experts attribute the increase in freight transport volumes to the development of transportation infrastructure, rising trade turnover, and economic recovery following pandemic-related restrictions.

The steady growth in freight transportation reflects the stable development of the country's economy and transport sector. While road transport continues to dominate, other modes, such as rail and pipeline transport, also play a significant role in Uzbekistan's logistics system.
