Uzbekistan’s First Ambassador to Malta presents credentials to the President
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s first Ambassador to Malta, with residence in Rome, Abat Fayzullaev, presented his credentials to Maltese President Myriam Spiteri Debono, the Dunyo news agency reports.
During the meeting, the President of Malta highlighted the growing bilateral relations driven by the open and pragmatic foreign policy of Uzbekistan’s leadership. Despite geographical distance, the two countries share common interests and goals, fostering multifaceted cooperation.
Special attention was given to mutual support for candidacies and initiatives within international organizations such as the UN and the OSCE.
In recent years, Uzbekistan-Malta relations have seen dynamic development. In September 2024, the foreign ministers of both countries held their first meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. In January 2025, Malta appointed its ambassador to Uzbekistan, based in Moscow, and the first round of inter-ministerial consultations took place in Valletta.
Abat Fayzullaev has served as Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Italy and Permanent Representative to international organizations in Rome (FAO, WHO, UNODC) since November 2023. In December 2024, he was also appointed as Uzbekistan’s first Ambassador to Cyprus.
Previously, from 2020 to 2023, he was Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Austria and concurrently served as Ambassador to Hungary. He also acted as the country’s Permanent Representative to the OSCE and other international organizations in Vienna.
