Uzbekistan's Competition Committee Recovers Millions for Consumers Nationwide

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — vThe Committee for Competition Development and Consumer Rights Protection and its regional offices announced June 12 the successful resolution of a series of citizen complaints spanning housing, automotive, utility, and aviation sectors.

In the Tashkent region, the Committee's special commission investigated complaints against car dealer JAS AVTO MOTORS LLC, which had failed to deliver vehicles within agreed timeframes after receiving payment. The company was issued a mandatory order to refund buyers an initial deposit totaling approximately 92 million soums.

The largest individual recovery came in Khorezm region, where a resident of Gurlan district had invested in an apartment at the Uzbekistan Trade Centre in 2025, then cancelled the contract in February 2026 due to financial difficulties. The developer repeatedly avoided returning the funds until the Committee intervened, ultimately compelling a full repayment of 204 million soums.

In Namangan region, the Committee's territorial office resolved a complaint from a passenger whose Krasnodar–Namangan Uzbekistan Airways flight was cancelled without explanation. Following the investigation, the sales department of Namangan International Airport LLC transferred the full ticket cost of 1,800,000 soums directly to the passenger's bank card.

A smaller but telling case emerged in Fergana region, where a utility management company had illegally charged a resident for outstanding debt on housing and communal services — failing to account for an advance payment the citizen had made in 2024 for the 2025 period. After the Committee's intervention, a full recalculation was carried out and the unjustified debt of 293,000 soums was cancelled in its entirety.

The cases collectively illustrate a pattern of institutional pressure the Committee is applying across Uzbekistan's consumer economy — targeting both large commercial actors and local service providers, and using formal enforcement orders rather than mediation alone to compel compliance.
