Uzbekistan warned of the possibility of short-term electricity supply restrictions

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to introduce short-term restrictions for electricity supply due to expected abnormally cold weather. This was stated in the statement of the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan.

On 4 January, under the leadership of the Minister of Energy, a meeting was held with the participation of heads and senior officials of enterprises in the energy system.

Issues of the correct and systematic organization of work in the fuel and energy complex during the period of an anomalous decrease in air temperature were discussed, and measures were taken to ensure the stable supply of consumers with energy resources.

In particular, it was decided to keep the restriction on the operation of gas filling stations for cars. The volume of natural gas supplies to large industrial enterprises will also sharply decrease.

The daily consumption of electricity by large enterprises in the energy system will also be reduced. It is expected that this will save 11-12 million kWh of electricity, which will be directed to the consumption of the population.

In order to prevent major accidents that may occur in the power system, short-term restrictions based on schedules will be introduced to simultaneously provide all consumers with electricity.

To ensure the stable operation of thermal power plants and power generation centers, an average of 49 million cubic meters of natural gas are supplied on daily basis.

To date, reserves of 90,000 tons of fuel oil and 280,000 tons of coal fuel have been created for these stations. The daily supply of coal to consumers will increase from 5,000 tons to 8,000 tons.

It was noted that as a result of an increase in demand for electricity on cold days, the load on electrical networks and transformer substations will also increase sharply. Short-term restrictions will not exceed 2 hours, the Ministry of Energy notes.
