Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of his visit to the United States, the Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade (MIIT) of the Republic of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov met with the US Deputy Secretary of Commerce, the Deputy US Trade Representative, the Vice President of the World Bank, and also held negotiations with the leadership of large American companies.

During the meetings, agreements were reached to intensify interaction on renewing the status of a beneficiary of the GSP program for Uzbekistan, organizing the 7th meeting of the working group on our country’s accession to the WTO, creating a joint consultative platform to eliminate barriers to mutual trade, as well as launching a negotiation process regarding the preparation of intergovernmental agreements on mutual protection of investments and avoidance of double taxation.

It is also planned to deepen cooperation in such priority areas as the “green agenda”, the development of “human capital”, support for the private sector, the introduction of PPP mechanisms, reducing the role of the state in the economy, privatization, and the development of small and medium-sized businesses.

Negotiations also took place with the leadership of the American Apparel and Footwear Association, corporations Starlink, Medtronic, Colourizd, Pfizer, B2Gold, Morgan Stanley, Akin Gump, Cerberus Frontier and other large companies.

The issues of attracting US direct investment to Uzbekistan in projects for the privatization of banks, chemical enterprises and cellular communication companies, the implementation of projects for the production of innovative vaccines, the construction of solar and wind power plants, and the introduction of advanced software and technologies into the textile industry of Uzbekistan were agreed upon.
