Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan U23 suffered a 2-1 defeat to Spain in their debut match of the football tournament of the Paris Olympics.
In the 29th minute of the match, Spain’s defender Marc Pubill opened the scoring with a goal against Uzbekistan.
In the 45+3 minute, Eldor Shomurodov scored a penalty, becoming the first Uzbek footballer to score a goal in the Olympics.
In the 59th minute, Abduvokhid Nematov managed to save a penalty, but just 4 minutes later, Sergio Gomez put Spain ahead again.
Despite several attempts to equalize, the Uzbekistan team was unable to score against their opponent.
On 27 July, Uzbekistan will play their second group stage match against Egypt.
