Uzbekistan to take part in PISA in 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan, with the assistance of the World Bank, joined Progran for International Student Assessment (PISA) by the Organization for Economic Cooperation (OECD), for the first time in 2022.

The test measured the ability of 15-year-old students from more than 80 countries to use their knowledge and skills in three literacy areas: reading, mathematics, and science.

Thanks to the efforts of the Ministry of Preschool and School Education (MPSE), more than 7,200 students from more than 200 schools in the country took part in the PISA 2022 testing. Although the results of the Uzbekistan assessment were low, this experience allowed to identify existing problems in the school education system and begin to work on eliminating them to improve the quality of education and student achievement.

On30 April, MPSE, the National Research Institute for Professional Development and Teacher Training named after A. Avloni, the Republican Scientific and Methodological Center for Educational Development and the World Bank have launched preparations for the pilot testing of PISA 2025, which will take place in Uzbekistan in May this year.

As part of a two-day seminar at secondary school No. 110 in Tashkent, specialists from the field of school education will become familiar with the methodology, tests and online platform with questions that will be used to assess student literacy within the framework of PISA 2025.
The seminar was attended by World Bank experts, including the head of the World Bank representative office in Uzbekistan, Marco Mantovanelli.

The preparation and conduct of testing within the framework of PISA 2022 in Uzbekistan was carried out during the implementation of the project “Promoting the Development of Early Childhood”, implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science with financial assistance from the World Bank ($73.85 million).

The project is aimed at improving the national preschool education system. Preparation for testing within the framework of PISA 2025 is also carried out with the support of this project.
