Uzbekistan to Stop Selling “Premium” License Plates via Auctions from October 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Starting from October 2025, the sale of “premium” vehicle license plates through auctions on the commodity exchange will be discontinued.
According to the government resolution, from 1 October, auctions through the system of JSC “Uzbek Republican Commodity Exchange” (UZEX) will no longer be held.
Unsold combinations will be allocated as follows: plates in categories 1–3 will be issued at a single elevated tariff via Uzavtomotobelgi, while plates in categories 4–6 will be issued according to the current procedure without the increased tariff.
From 1 January 2026, the auction procedure for selling license plates through UZEX, as well as issuing plates with highly demanded alphanumeric combinations at elevated tariffs, will be fully abolished. The standard procedure for issuing regular license plates without sought-after combinations will remain in place.
Individuals and legal entities will be able to obtain plates with a desired combination directly by paying a single elevated tariff through an electronic request.
At the same time, a unified open database of all available letter and number combinations will be launched. Access to the database will be possible via:
info kiosks at the Ministry of Internal Affairs offices in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the Tashkent City Main Department of Internal Affairs, and regional MIA departments;
the mobile application of the Traffic Safety Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs;
the official website of the Traffic Safety Service of the MIA;
the Unified Portal of Interactive Public Services.
All license plates will be systematized by territorial codes.
In the future, issuing “prestigious” combinations within a single territorial code will be limited and only possible if at least 90% of the combinations are already occupied.
