Economy 18/02/2009 Uzbekistan to spend over US$176m boosting energy supply in villages

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to spend 247.25 billion soums (US$176.5 million) on uninterrupted supply of energy resources in villages in 2009-12, within the framework of the "The Year of Development and Prosperity of Villages" state programme, which was approved by the country’s president.

The project was aimed at creating favourable conditions for uninterrupted and guaranteed supply of needed energy resources in villages by reconstructing existing energy supply facilitates and building new ones. The project will be funded from enterprises’ own funds.

As part of work on developing electricity and gas infrastructure in villages, the Uzbekenergo (Uzbek energy) state joint stock company will reconstruct and repair 7,458 km of electric power lines and will construct about 1,050 km of new power lines by 2012. By 2013, the Uztransgaz (Uzbek gas transportation) joint stock company will conduct the full repair and reconstruction of over 3,660 km of various gas distribution networks.

The Uzbekenergo company will allocate US$111.4 million to implement the electric power line project.
