Uzbekistan to observe Eid al-Adha on 16 November
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First day of Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) was announced as day-off in Uzbekistan and will be marked widely as holiday in the country. The first day of Eid al-Adha falls to 16 November 2010.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On celebrating Kurban-hait (Eid al-Adha)” on 9 November 2010. The document said that Kurban-hait is expression of kindness and mercy, tollarance and generosity of the Uzbek people.

The resolution said taking into consideration the proposal of the Muslims’ Board of Uzbekistan, the first day of Eid al-Adha, 16 November 2010, was announced as day-off and should be marked as a holiday in Uzbekistan.

Eid al-Adha is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a commemoration of Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael for Allah. It is one of two Eid festivals that Muslims celebrate. Like Eid ul-Fitr, Eid ul-Adha begins with a short prayer followed by a sermon (khuá¹ba). It is also called the bigger Eid because it lasts a day longer than Eid ul-Fitr.
